Crvena Zvezda - KK Partizan 72:75 (play-off, final, 3rd match)

We won.
We should mention though that we could make it with greater-than-life luck and we could take advantage of Zvezda’s boosting self-confidence thinking that this night they would celebrate. If I can be brutally honest: this game was rather lost by Zvezda than won by us.
But sports are not about "rather"-s and luck, but about points and/or goals. At the end it’s only the result that matters.

Warning: I might anger some people with this blogpost, but despite the end result I won’t be gentle and forgiving to anyone.

We had a horrible start. There’s nothing to attenuate on it. I have never seen such a terrible, crappy game start by this team (I’ve been watching them for 3+ years now). We could score ONLY FIVE (5) POINTS in the entire quarter. Not more, not less. Five.
They were all scored by Jones.

Kevin Jones

We shat into the pants. There were five scared field mice on the court running circles. It was a shame. No excuse.
The quarter ended with 13:5. Okay, Zvezda didn’t push themselves either, but as I said earlier, they were too sure about their victory.
The second quarter started with the fight of Veličković and Miller.

(photo: hotsport.rs)

Referees solved it by giving technical foul to both.

This time the main official of the game was a different referee, not that one from the previous two games. If I wanted to crack a weak joke, I’d say maybe that was the reason why we could win now. What’s sure is that this time (at least at the beginning of the game) there were definitely much less fouls and openly biased judgements by the referees. Though later they made it up for the large-scale production, so to speak.

We picked ourseves together a bit (15:10). We took advantage of Zvezda missing out many attempts. Veličković was on the top. He scored a lot of 3-pointers, we can thank mainly to him that we reduced the difference to 24:22 and we could even keep it. Once we even took the lead. Murić first equalized (26:26), then he got a free throw as well and scored one (26:27). It didn’t last long though (28:27). Both teams struggled with no result. Finally referees commiserated Zvezda and gave them a free throw at the end of the quarter. We finished the first half with a two-point drawback (29:27).

Zvezda-players were not too friendly with Murić
(photo: hotsport.rs)

In the third quarter Williams joined us

where the hell was he in the first half?...

and we immediately sped up.

Darrell Williams
(photo: hotsport.rs)

We equalized (29:29), we took the lead (29:31) and kept it (37:39). Williams made a fantastic series and he didn’t stop (39:41). Zvezda equalized (43:43), for a short while they took back the lead (45:43), then we were leading again with Murić’s 3-pointer. This was when Zvezda’s overconfidence striked back. We didn’t just lead (47:50), but what Vrabac did at the end buzz, that was unbelievable.

He threw the ball at the half-court...

...the ball perfectly fell into the ring. Time to celebrate
(photos: hotsport.rs)

There’s a video about this scene:

The quarter ended with 47:53.

Yes, we were leading. Still there was something that made me sad, or at least turned off my mood enough that I could't be happy with the standing. Namely I saw nobody with enough pulling power for the whole team. Neither this time, nor during the past 5-6 games. Okay, Veličković and his great routine helped us getting out of the bottom, but he had to do it all alone, because the others did not help or assist him. Okay, a few players had some good moments, e.g. this great 3-pointer by Vrabac, or Williams’s performance in the 3rd quarter. But on one hand none of these had a balanced performance, on the other the rest of the team was just a grey mass. Wilson was invisible, Murić excelled mostly with his faults during the past games. As for the rest, the only reason I remember them is because I see a few of their names in my notes near the scores. None of them had any remarkable moments. And this is unadmittable, because this is PARTIZAN and not just a nameless team from the countryside.

Then came the last quarter where we demonstrated how to gain a 15-point advantage, then we demonstrated right there how to lose it until almost the last point.
At first we were leading, almost confidently (50:59). We reached the two-digit difference (52:62). Hey, people, it’s the last quarter and we are leading with 10 points! What is more, with Jones’s 3-pointer it was 52:65. Aranitović showed himself, too (52:67). 15 points, in the last quarter!!!
Oh, wait...
It was reduced immediately to 10 points (57:67). Murić scored a 3-pointer (57:70) three minutes before the end. At 62:72 Veličković was fouled out, while Zvezda sped up (65:72). Full court press, combat fights, Vrabac was fouled in an impossible situation. Even ArenaSport’s commentators didn’t believe their eyes... Only 50 seconds were left, the standing was 70:73. Zvezda was struggling hard, while we desperately tried to defend the result. Wilson raised our advantage a bit from free throw (70:75), Zvezda scored 9 seconds before the end (72:75). In the most critical moment Wilson dropped the ball out of his hand. For our XXXXL-sized luck there were only 2-3 seconds left and Zvezda had no time to change the standing.
Here’s a video about this circus:

Then it ended. The standing is 2:1 now for the neighbourhood. The next game will be on Thursday, at 21:00 on ArenaSport 1.

Crvena Zvezda - KK Partizan 84:53 (play-off, final, 1st match)

It’s so hard. So hard to say anything on it. The end result speaks for itself.
Yes, the opponent ground us. The only reason the referees didn’t wear red-white striped jerseys is probably that they have to have a mandatory uniform on. Yes, the opponent’s fans threw the dirtiest, most vulgar curses on us (for which the basketball association will surely not punish them, or even if they will, it will be only something token).
Still there’s no explanation for our weak performance, nor for the fact that there are seemingly no useful tactics against Zvezda’s grinding style.

Teams warm up before the game
(photo: Twitter)

At the beginning we led for a short while

it says all that less than a minute passed when referees fouled Murić, nobody knows why

Jones threw baskets for us, but then they took the lead (10:9). Cvetković equalized from free throw (10:10), but they immediately took back the lead (12:10). Referees gave a row of gift free throws to the other side, but even worse was that we couldn’t score any 3-pointers. Players were wrestling for the ball, Zvezda brought the best out of their man-to-man-fight tactics. These brought them a lot of steals and they paid off. The first quarter ended with 21:15, with some exaggeration we can say that the match also ended here.

Fight on the court - Wilson vs. Kinsey...
(photo: hotsport.rs)

...Williams vs. Jović
(photo: Facebook/KK Partizan)

The second quarter started with a struggle. No scores on both sides for long. Finally we reduced the difference to 2 points with the baskets of Cvetković and Vitkovac (24:22).
Then Zvezda jumped to 32:22.
In the meantime referees supported them with small, sometimes invisible but still significant actions. E.g. they didn’t mind a Partizan-player being smashed to the court, or they validated Zvezda’s almost-over-the-buzz score with a broad smile (had Partizan scored the same way, that would have been surely invalid).
We struggled. Zvezda made a 10:1 series, from us only Jones (34:25) and Veličković (39:27) could score. The hall was covered with smoke, after a few firecrackers were thrown

did I see well that one of them almost hit Murić?

and Zvezda threw just another basket at the half-time buzz. It was high time to end the first half. (42:27)

(photo: hotsport.rs)

In the third quarter Zvezda continued to grind us, while we just couldn’t take up the gauntlet. We were just fumbling... And then Cvetković got injured after clashing with the opponent, he couldn’t continue the game.
Zvezda put us under very heavy pressure. It was so hard that we couldn’t even throw the ball and ran out of time. Or if someone was brave enough to break under the backboard, he got torn to pieces. They did whatever they wanted... they reached the 20-point-difference as well (58:38).

It just came to my mind that we deserve to be behind them this much for this impotent performance.

The quarter ended with 64:39.

Grave Diggers
(photo: hotsport.rs)

The last quarter was merely a desperate struggle by us.

National team member Štimac was the biggest disappointment. He has been turned into a real moron (and he seemingly didn’t protest against this role). Do state dotation and the presence of this political mastodon Nebošja Čović matter this much?...

We collapsed. It’s needless to get into details... Zvezda took advantage of all our weaknesses.
Next game will be on Sunday from 21:00. ArenaSport 1 broadcasts it live.

KK Partizan - FMP 87:78 (play-off, semifinal, 3rd match)

We won. We qualified to the final. We sweated blood, all odds were against us, but finally justice has won.
A few hours before the game some rumours started to circle around the net reporting that FMP (allegedly) had decided to leave the court if Partizan-fans start to mock again Vesna Čović, as they did at the previous home game. This way they would made scandal and perhaps they could squeeze out of the basketball association to suspend us from the championship.

After this Partizan-fans got an unexpected and unpleasant surprise at the entrance of Pionir Hall: a group of raging Crvena Zvezda-fans.

Nobody called them (maybe uncle Čoki did, but he doesn’t count)

(photos: Twitter)

A couple of beloved friends were present at the game.

International tae-kwon-do champion Milica Mandić...

...and Joffrey Lauvergne, who got a warm welcome from fans
(photos: Twitter)

Meanwhile the team warmed up.

(photos: Twitter)

During the national anthem I just had to make this screenshot. Filip Čović in life size.

Mr. Minority
(screenshot/ArenaSport 1)

Referees made us clear at the beginning that they dislike us. FMP brought their usual aggressive foul court press tactics again, but this time we didn’t keep ourself back from this man-to-man fight, but bravely entered. The only problem was that we were fouled for these fights and not the opponent.
It still looked so that things work fine. We were leading to 10:4, FMP’s head coach nervously asked for time-out. While the fans...
Hats off to Partizan-fans, they really didn’t chant that ominous "Čović Vesna, j..... se k’o besna"-rhyme.
Instead they chanted everything else.

After all, this was not forbidden...
In the meantime we reached the two-digit difference (16:6). Wilson and Jones were in excellent shape. Vitkovac threw a hook from an impossible angle (21:9) while a defender was hanging on his neck. Murić had a giant block, for which he was fouled, but when he was brutally blocked at the other side, the referees just waved "go on". However we finished the first part with 24:10.

Partizan-fans in the first quarter
(photo: Twitter)

For the second quarter it was clear that FMP can play the big boss only when they are at home, when only their own fans are around, and the only reason referees don’t wear FMP-shirts is because it would be too obvious. At an away court, against a (much more) professional team FMP is still an average countryside group of players. Partizan was leading with 15 points (29:14), and fans could still find a way to mock Mme Čović. The two sides of the tribune chanted in turns saying
Iiiiiiima jeeeeeedan tim...
...VESNA!
Ceo sam život s njiiiiiim...
...VESNA!
And so on.

It was genious. No curse words, no vulgarities, but it was still clear-cut.

We were leading to 35:16. As soon as a Partizan-player tried to throw the ball into the ring (especially if it was to be a hook), at least 4 FMP-players jumped on him. Our advantage was still confident, we were leading to 41:26 in the half-time. Vrabac scored a fantastic 3-pointer just 5 seconds before the end buzz.

(photo: Facebook/KK Partizan)

The beginning of the third quarter looked smooth. We were leading to 46:30, then to 54:36 (with the amazing teamwork of Jones and Marinković), but the referees whistled off impossible things as foul. Of course only for us, to be able to give gift free throws to FMP. Despite their efforts we could rise upt to 20 points of difference (57:37). Vrabac had a giant block, the slow motion replay even showed FMP’s player fumbling it away, but still Vrabac was fouled. Then Veličković got a bonus shot at 62:46. He threw the ball, it seemed to rebound, but still could have fallen into the ring, if an FMP-player hadn’t slapped it off, ending it as a defensive rebound - the referee didn’t whistle. We could still keep our advantage (66:50), though the guest team had a more and more aggressive game. The third part ended with 69:52, but the worst was yet to come.

Vrabac and Wilson help Williams to get back to his feet
(photo: Facebook/KK Partizan)

At the beginning of the last quarter Murić and Čović clashed. All that was visible was that Murić tried to tackle Čović, then Čović pushed his elbow into Murić’s face and then hell broke loose.

Finally referees resolved the situation by giving technical foul to both players. This was the second technical for both, they had to leave the court.

How wonderful it was. (Not.) The fail of logics and moral.

Both teams got their free throws. Partizan scored (73:61), FMP missed it out. Therefore the referees gave them a gift free throw (fouling us again with an impossible reason). That was fine. Good boys. (75:63)
At this point both teams released the beast. Even though FMP's poison-fang was pulled out by sending off Čović, they didn’t get any more sportsmanlike or technically skilled. They played the same man-to-man-fight tactics with full court press, maybe with one less moron on the court. They still got the support from the referees they needed, so the absence of the Boss’s Son wasn’t that prominent. They reduced the difference to 79:73.
Here came the time for Veličković.
Veličković took the team on his back and started to score 3-pointers. FMP-players immediately jumped on him (at least 3 of them at once). Only a few seconds were left from the game, it was in fact wrestling and not basketball on the court. Finally the referee took a deep breath and fouled FMP. Marinković scored from the free throw (87:75), but at the very end FMP just had to get a bonus shot after a score as well as a free throw. After 40 minutes of circus the buzz ended the game and we could celebrate our qualifying to the final. Aunt Vesna is done, now come uncle Čoki and his pitbulls.

FMP - KK Partizan 79:74 (play-off, semifinal, 2nd game)

This video is a perfect summary about this game.

It’s like when you try to fight against armed forces state forces the little favourites of the current state leadership, but at the end you come a cropper with them.
The wonderful (not...) prequel for this game was FMP having a tantrum at the basketball association to be able to lock out Partizan-fans from this game, because at the previous game they behaved soooo terribly, what a shame, such antipopular elements hooligans are not allowed to their "basketball arena" (LOL).

For this previous game show Partizan got a fine of 360 000 dinars from the association. You can’t just mock Nebojša Čović and his family, comrades people! There must be law and order!...

So, it was breathtakingly beautiful. (Not.) 80 % of the stands were empty, there were only a handful of monkeys that just escaped from the zoo FMP-fans and a few Partizan-supporters disguised as peaceful spectators.

National anthem
(screenshot/ArenaSport 1)

Referees made sure already at the beginning that they don’t like us. The national anthem hasn’t even ended when FMP already got a free throw (1:0). Đumić took us the lead (1:2), but it didn’t last long, the home team took it back (6:5). They were leading in the first quarter, sometimes we equalized (7:7 - Jones, 15:15 - Williams), but we could still make a cliffhanger for the last seconds. The standing was 19:18, Milutinović threw the ball into the ring and he scored, just as it is written in the Big Book of Basketball. 19:20, end buzz.

Aleksandar Cvetković with his barnacle, Filip Čović
(photo: Facebook/KK Partizan)

We were leading in the second quarter, though it cost a lot of sweat from us. We couldn’t have a bigger jump, our advantage was only 3-4 points. FMP, led by Čović jr. used very aggressive tactics, while we were like as if we could’t follow their pace. Meanwhile Jones scored, with at least 4 FMP-players hanging on him (24:28).
Filip Čović was in royal spirits. Now that Partizan-fans were forced to stay away, yet Daddy was there, yes, Nebojša Čović himself

mingling with FMP-fans, so that everyone could see he was just an ordinary man, too, an ordinary father who came to watch his sonny boy

his real moron self could come to the surface.
Filip Čović is not a good player. He isn’t much skilled, he is not a class player, also he is relatively small (180 cm), so if he wants to do a spectacular slam dunk, he has to ask a taller teammate to raise him up to the ring. He compensate these with being tireless and very aggressive, using tactics that makes him stick to the opponent’s player more than a barnacle. So, he is not a prominent player, but a very unpleasant, sometimes dangerous opponent. His fellow teammates practically just assist to him, it’s visible that FMP is about him only.

Would they dare to be about someone else?...

FMP’s aggressive game finally brought fruits. Okay, they needed the referees’ help a lot. They equalized (30:30), took back the lead (32:30) and from then on they kept control in their hands. They used full court press, with a lot of man-to-man clashes. They were leading to 43:36 in the half-time.

Cvetković fighting with Čović
(photo: Facebook/KK Partizan)

For the third quarter we seemed to be slightly worn out. FMP’s grinding style mixed with the biased referees made it. And the truth is that we didn’t play well either. We were weak and made a million mistakes. The home team was leading to 45:39, then Čović got technical foul for something. No word can describe that rant Čoki jr. made.

"DAAADDYYYYYYYYY!!! Stop them! They gave technical foul to ME!!!"
(screenshot/ArenaSport 4)

But regulations are regulations. Čović got technical foul and we got a legal free throw (47:45). Then we took the lead with Murić’s 3-pointer (47:48).
Referees put themselves into action and made provision for keeping us back from taking control of the game. They quickly whistled offensive foul on Williams for nothing, FMP got a gift free throw (48:48). From then on it was going like this. Referees whistled off everything, really EVERYTHING we made as a foul. Even if a Partizan-player just gave a nasty look on the opponent. For the end of the quarter the home team reached the two-digit difference (58:48). Cvetković dauntlessly reduced it to 8 (with Čović on his back). 58:50. Yet referees gave TWO MORE free throws to FMP during the few seconds that were left until the buzz. Because why not. And because Daddy was there, too. The third quarter ended with 61:50.

Novica Veličković explains something with big gestures
(photo: Facebook/KK Partizan)

The last quarter wasn’t any better than the previous ones. To this we added our weakness and too many mistakes. Finally somehow we equalized, with clenching teeth (65:65), but we immediately got the next foul with the usual gift free throw to FMP (67:65). Meanwhile one of their players, Tejić was fouled out, but even that didn’t help us much. Another of their players made a rude foul on Wilson, the referees didn’t whistle it off, yet when Milutinović just touched a home player, he was fouled right there, followed by the gift free throw... Jones’s alleged double dribble was whistled off (I wasn’t convinced by ArenaSport’s slow motion replay...), meanwhile the game looked more like wrestling than basketball.

Williams in a "sandwich"
(photo: Facebook/KK Partizan)

Cvetković got fed up and with an excellent throw he took us back the lead (69:70). It brought a "ping pong"-game (one basket here, one basket there) that brought advantage for FMP (73:72). Home players were pushing Wilson so much that he slid out of the baseline with the ball - the referees whistled it off with advantage to FMP, of course. Meanwhile their coach got a technical foul, Wilson scored from the free throw and brought us up to 2 points (76:74).
Well, yes. We got dangerously close to the opponent, so the referees had to take action urgently. Only 9 seconds were left, when Vitkovac was fouled, because just so. Gift free throw to FMP (77:74). Then only 5 seconds were left when Vitkovac was fouled AGAIN. The opponent scored from the free throw, that was the end result as well (79:74). Third, crucial game will be held on Wednesday from 21:00. ArenaSport 1 will broadcast that, too, live.

KK Partizan - Mega Leks 94:89 (superliga, round 5)

This game was an incredible comedy from the beginning to the end.

(photo: Twitter)

A message to everyone in charge: KLS’s stream was more dead than the mummy of Tut-Ankh-Amun. Finally I could find a working one, though I surely gained a few more grey hair.

It was clear that Mega Leks came to Pionir Hall to win. There was no doubt about it. Thus they had a very heavy start and took the lead to 7:10. But Williams equalized (10:10) and it was mostly him who made us taking the lead and jumping to 20:16 for the end of the first quarter.

A few moments from the beginning of the match:

The second quarter brought actual combat fight on the court. At first Mega Leks equalized (20:20), then Partizan came up to 30:22 step by step, fighting for every single point. We kept our advantage (36:29), the two Americans, Jones and Wilson scored some 3-pointers. Only 1 second was left from the first half, when we got free throw. Wilson scored one point from that, we finished the first 20 minutes with 41:33.

(photo: Facebook/KK Partizan)

For the third quarter Mega Leks decided that either they tear us to tiny pieces or they die. They almost managed to do the first. They did it the same way as we did in the second quarter. They reduced their difference step by step, with stubbornness and hard work to 2 points (48:46). They even equalized (48:48) with a huge steal. Aleksandar Džikić immediately asked for timeout, when we returned to the court, Marinković threw a 3-pointer right there (51:48). The players were fighting for the ball, Mega Leks got into man-to-man fight without hesitation. They were always just a few steps behind us (55:51) finally they equalized right before the buzz. (62:62)

Aleksandar Cvetković
(photo: Facebook/KK Partizan)

The last quarter was like a circus.
The last time I saw so many fouls was surely at a derby game. Referees were whistling continuously, foul came after foul. Players were fighting, wrestling for the ball, and even though we were leading, the guests were always behind us (73:71). We could never make it to the two-digit difference, not even when Cvetković threw a 3-pointer almost from the parking lot (83:75). Mega Leks kept the pace (87:83). Only 28 seconds were left, when Marinković was fouled out, followed almost immediately by a Mega Leks player who also got his 5th foul. The standing was 90:83, when Mega Leks got a free throw (90:85). Partizan got one, too, when 25 seconds were left. Veličković scored (92:85). Mega Leks asks for time out. When they return to the court, another free throw is waiting for them (92:87). Only 21 seconds are left. Partizan also gets a free throw. Wilson scores easily (94:87). Mega Leks uses full court press, they fight with all their might left. They got another free throw when there are only 12 seconds left. 94:89. The guests put us under very heavy pressure, while Partizan goes for stonewalling. Then it ended, thankfully. We could celebrate.

This was the last game in the group stage. From Group B Partizan and Mega Leks qualified. The latter one will play against Crvena Zvezda, while Partizan got the red team’s sub-team, FMP.

Borac Čačak - KK Partizan 83:94 (superliga, round 4)

This was awful. During the first half Murphy’s every law came into effect that is connected in any way to internet and/or IT. What is more, new laws were born. Dying internet, dead stream, collapsing/freezing browser

I swear, my browser collapses only once a year
well, I hope that now I’m done for the rest of this year

cursing, swearing, finally following the results live on FlashScore.com, as nothing else worked.
I could still make a few screenshots and there are official photos, too.

My net’s still dying, the photos are uploading with the speed of a rheumatic snail
I hope I can get this blogpost done for dawn

The most important is, as much as I could see, that we were leading for the entire first half. Sometimes our advantage was only 2 points, but we were always ahead (if the home team happened to equalize or even take the lead some time during the game, it didn't last long).

At the end of the first part we were leading to 21:24.
We kept our advantage in the second quarter, too. At a point we were ahead with 9 points (26:35). Borac then reduced the difference to 33:36.
Something happened here, because the standing was in halt on FlashScore for quite a while. I checked other sites, it was the same. If anybody knows what was going on at the court, please, write it to the comment box. Thanks in advance.
Borac equalized soon before half time (39:39), but we could take back the lead (39:42). That was the half time result as well.

In the third quarter our advantage was 10 points (42:52). My net came back to life around here, just when Murić stood to the paint again (52:60).
Borac played very aggressively. I don’t know if they had this style in the first half as well, but they bit themselves on our players. I was just blinking. There were a lot of fouls, the game was very fragmented, referees were just whistling all the time.

Still it was a great game. Damn it that I had to miss out the first half.

Team Čačak put rebounding on a perfect level. They threw a lot of 3-pointers. They reduced the difference to 63:66. In the meantime local fans were hissing and booing every time a Partizan-player touched the ball. The atmosphere was heated.

In the fourth quarter we quickly jumped to 63:70, then we settled back the two-digit difference (67:77). After that we just had to keep it.
We managed.
