FK Partizan - Čukarički 1:0 (superliga, round 5)

If we see the positive side, we won again.
If we see the less positive side as well: we won with one single goal and minimal fortitude. Players kept running all around, which was probably excellent to show they do have the physical level needed, but the efficiency was again level League 4. Some players STILL play alibi football.
Čukarički tried with a shot on target in the 4th minute, it was Radonjić, if I saw his shirt number well. And that was all the action for a good 15 minutes. We had an attempt in the 17th minute, Đurđić fumbled it away after a goalmouth scrumble, then Balažic shot, but he was blocked.
Čukarički’s goalkeeper had his first work to do in the 24th minute, when Everton wanted to stir things up at their goal, but he didn’t get further from "wanted". (He shot, but the goalkeeper saved.)
Other than this, nothing. Players were running around without actual attempt or combat. Čukarički played bravely, they didn’t switch to defensive football, but none of the teams could make it up to the other’s penalty area.
The 26th minute brought the surprise. Mihajlović crossed a free kick to the goalmouth, Bojinov was right there. Being there he headed the ball to the box, and the ball dropped inside. 1:0

Mihajlović missed out a giant chance in the 30th minute. Čukarički’s entire defense line had a momentary lapse of reason, finally one of them saved by sliding into the way in the last minute.
Radović again dissolved into thin air, Đurđić seemed so that he wasn’t even on the pitch. This guy is excellent in hiding away from the ball. He tried to act only once as if he was about to score a goal, some time in the 37th minute, but even then he was offside.
Then nothing happened. So much nothing that the wrestling competition on TV (Olympic Games!) was more exciting than this. At least those athletes were really fighting... While over here there was just a lukewarm-like-footbath, powerless game, typically that kind when the luckier team wins, usually with a suddenly "found" or gift goal.
The second half was not better at all. Lack of ideas, knocking the ball around, boredom.

The thing that totally freaked me out was that everyone kicked the ball just ahead. Nothing else. It’s something even I can do. Please, tell me, can I be in Partizan’s starting 11 next week?...

We could build up an attack in the 63rd minute with blood, sweat and tears. Balažic headed it towards the box, too high. In the 71st minute substitute player Stevanović missed out a "zicer", goalkeeper Petrić had a great save. Not much later Milenković headed the ball after a corner kick, again Petrić saved, possibly even bigger.
The pace sped up maybe for the last 10 minutes, the game became fair.

No, not "good". It wasn't good. It was relatively fair, on the lower side. But at least it wasn't that nerve-rackingly boring.

Čukarički attacked, they tried to grab at least one point, then Partizan also tried to build up more attacks, to make their position fixed. It brought one attempt on both sides, first came in the 85th minute for Partizan, when someone in the goalmouth scramble pushed Balažic’s free kick with head, but Petrić saved it.

I hope he gets for this performace today at least a marble plate in Banovo Brdo.

Then Jovanović headed the ball towards the box in the 90th minute, barely missing it.

XXXI. Summer Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro - Day 7, 12th August, 2016

Friday brought two games at the Olympic Games with Partizan-players. The first one was a basketball game, where the Serbian team got definitely the best team from which everyone (or almost everyone...) expects gold medal: the United States.
The fact these hamburger-fed yankees Americans could score only 3 (THREE) more points than Serbia, that's really something to be proud of. Team USA won 94:91, at a surely very heavily struggling game and I'm sure if any of their players might see again the clenching teeth and sweaty face of Bogdanović and Mačvan in their nightmares, they wake up crying, chewing on their pillows. Compared to the half time score (50:41) and to Americans still leading with 10 points in the third quarter (72:62), Serbia could make such a final that is written in the Big Book of Basketball.

The basketball team is now 4th in their group - keep this place, boys, because then you will qualify to the next round!
At the evening game (early Saturday dawn CET) the Serbian and the Australian water polo teams clashed with Serbia gaining their first victory. The first quarter finished with 2:2, Serbia took the lead, then Australian equalized just 6 seconds before the end. The second quarter was tough. A lot. Australians were leading, sometimes with 2 goals (2:4) and even the half time result was for them (4:5). Then came the third quarter and a more or less square water wrestling (6:6).
Then the last quarter.
It started with 7:7.
Then it was 10:7, for Serbia. 3 minutes before the end they performed an amazing water polo show. Australians could pressure out only one single goal from themselves. The end result was 10:8 for Serbia.

XXXI. Summer Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro - Day 6, 11th August, 2016

At long last the rowing Final B could happen late afternoon CET. Both the Beđik-Vasić and the Šljukić-Marjanović duos finished on Place 10.

Andrea Arsović finished the 50 m rifle 3 positions at the 28th place. She again couldn’t qualify to the final.

XXXI. Summer Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro - Day 5, 10th August, 2016

This day should rather be forgotten.
The rowing events had to be cancelled again for bad weather. It means, the Beđik-Vasić as well as the Šljukić-Marjanović duos will race for the 7-12th place on Thursday early afternoon CET.
Update: or not. The weather is again very bad in Rio, so the events are postponed to 17:40 CET.

The basketball team was defeated by France to 75:76. After a very tough first half (first quarter: 17:26, second: 36:40) Serbs took the lead in the third part (60:57), but finally the French team won with one point.

The basketball team is 4th in their group. They have two games left, one against the US, and one against China, both will be more than though.

The water polo team surprisingly got defeated from Brazil to 6:5. Looking at the statistics of the game, it could be a real struggle. The first quarter seemed to be smooth (0:2 to Serbia), then the half time turned to be 3:3 from 1:3. In the third quarter the Brazilians took the lead (5:3), Serbs equalized in the last part (5:5), but then, when only 46 seconds were left, the referees gave a penalty to Brazil which decided Serbia’s fate (Duško Pijetlović had an attempt though afterwards, but the Brazilian goalkeeper, who is that Slobodan Soro, who used to be Partizan’s goalkeeper, but in the meantime was naturalized by Brazil, so, this Slobodan Soro saved Pijetlović’s shot.)

And well, the truth is, that the Serbian team is very much behind in their group. They are second last, they have only 2 points. Only Japan is behind them. They have one game left against Australia, then one more against Japan, they must win both, if they want to qualfiy to the quarterfinals.

FK Javor - FK Partizan 0:2 (superliga, round 4)

Call the Patriarch. A miracle happened.
We won a match!
It’s really a miracle, considering what a terribly boring game it was.
In the beginning the team had some pace. In the 5th minute Bojinov thought he could score a goal, but the ball flew over the crossbar with just a few centimetres. Then in the 13rd minute for the biggest surprise we took the lead. Again Bojinov shot, now from the goalmouth, but he hit the crossbar. Then it fell right in front of Radović, who also shot, it was an unmissable attempt and this time the ball ended in the box. It all happened so quick

This goal shook up Javor, they started to attack, but they seemed to be a bit overly careful. Nevertheless Partizan got stuck to their half for a while. The home team had a great chance in the 27th moment, but the ball hit Miletić as it was flying towards the box and dropped back downfield.
Then the pace slowed down after the 30th minute. The players were just passing the ball around, sometimes they tried with some attack-alike action, which were blocked by defenders on both sides. Our 3rd attempt on target was in the 40th minute, this time Saša Ilić had a try, no success.
There was one action left for the 45th minute, but only for Average Fan to have something to curse about: Đurđić

ran up. The goalkeeper ran out of the goalmouth, Đurđić dribbled away and tried to get ahead with the ball, but it rolled through the penalty area, then finished its way through the sideline.
The second half brought no action. The players were running up and down, with no attempt at all. The first trying was in the 62nd minute, a Javor-player shot, Šaranov could touch the ball, finally Balažic kicked it downfield.
Then in the 69th minute Partizan got a penalty shot. Miletić was kicked to the ground inside Javor’s penalty area, it was clearly a penalty. Mihajlović stood behind the ball, shot and scored. 0:2
From then on the match died. Ball-passing here and there, knocking it around, doing nothing. Partizan didn’t push themselves, Javor resigned themselves to the defeat. At the end there was some action though, in the 88th minute Đurđić missed out a chance

and this soulless, talentless kangaroo cost 400 000 € 

then in the 86th minute Bjedov headed the ball to the box after a corner-kick, but he hit the crossbar. A very last attempt happened in the 91st minute, Balažic headed the ball to the box, but he also hit the crossbar instead.

XXXI. Summer Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro - Day 4, 9th August, 2016

The day started with the rowing semifinals. First Nenad Beđik and Miloš Vasić were in race in the first run in men’s pair.

They finished 5th clocking 6:31.00. This was enough for Final B, which will take part on Wednesday at 13:00 CET for Place 7-12.
It was the same result for the Šljukić-Marjanović duo. They were also racing in the first run, they also finished at the 5th place (6:27.66). They could also qualify to Final B for Place 7-12.

Velimir Stjepanović couldn’t qualify to the semifinals of the men’s 100 m freestyle. He finished at the 32th place as a tie with Park Tae-hwan from South Korea.

XXXI. Summer Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro - Day 3, 8th August 2016

The day had a good start. The rowing repechage events could finally happen and Partizan's both duos could make it to the qualifying. Nenad Beđik, Miloš Vasić, Andrija Šljukić and Marko Marjanović will race on Tuesday at 15:00 CET for the final.

The water polo team played draw with the Greek team, the match ended with 9:9. Team Serbia is third now in Group A.

At the tennis fields Nenad Zimonjić and Novak Đoković clashed in men’s double with the Brazilian pair Melo and Soares. They were defeated to 2:0 (6:4, 6:4), the Olympic Games have ended for them, too.

The day finished with basketball. Serbia wrestled played with Australia, then in the very last minutes they were defeated to 80:95. Serbia is 3rd in their group behind Australia and the United States.

XXXI. Summer Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro - Day 2, 7th August, 2016

The rowing events must be cursed. Yesterday the whole event was postponed due to bad weather. It was so windy in the bay and the water was waving so hard that the repechages and qualifyings could not get started. So the Beđik-Vasić and the Šljukić-Marjanović duos will have to perform on Monday afternoon CET.

At the tennis fields Viktor Troicki was defeated by Andy Murray at the men’s singles. The game finished with 0:2 for the Englishman (3:6, 2:6), the Olympic Games have ended for Troicki.

At swimming, Velimir Stjepanović could get to the qualifying of the men’s 200 m freestyle, but he finished 13th, he could not make it to the final.

One more thing that was missed out from yesterday’s report, cyclist Ivan Stević couldn’t finish the race yesterday. There’s no info about why he had to give it up.

FK Partizan - Vojvodina 1:3 (superliga, round 3)

Marko Nikolić, former and current head coach of Partizan returned to the bench at this game. As a kind of special celebration, Vojvodina put the "cheapest on sale" price tag on the team.
Three goals. That’s how many they scored to us. Just to prevent us from falling into the trap of overconfidence.

What could one expect from a team where the starting eleven includes Valeri "Sloth" Bojinov, Miroslav "Pensioner" Radović, Gregor "Last time I played was 2 centuries ago" Balažic, Alen "Pathetic" Stevanović and Darko "Seriously out of shape" Brašanac?...

The first goal was scored in the 6th minute by Vojvodina. Honestly... It was a top class goal by Dejan Meleg. He tricked the entire Partizan defense line including Bojan Šaranov (the latter one surely didn’t know where was north and south...) then passed the ball above the heads right into the box. Stevanović was standing on the goal line and desperately tried to head it out, but instead he headed it even deeper into the net. 0:1
In the 10th minute Bojinov again, once again missed out a giant chance. All doors and windows were open, and he hit the crossbar from a few metres. If he happened not to miss out attempts, then he either got stuck in offside position every goddamn time, or he was slower than a sloth.
If we happened to attack at all. It happened a few times, and it seemed as if there was a tiny bit more spirit in them than at previous games. Still all these attempts and attacks were unsuccessful. Vojvodina’s goalkeeper was totally jobless, their defense line blocked all our actions.
The 29th minute brought the second goal by Vojvodina. One of them easily tackled Everton, then Paločević shot from the left corner of the penalty area while running past Gogoua, as if Partizan’s defender had been a lamp post, finally he kicked the ball into the box. The ball flew past the falling Šaranov and landed in the bottom right corner. 0:2

In the 43rd minute Bojinov missed out the greatest chance of the entire game by attempting from three steps, but the goalkeeper saved right on the goal line.

Vojvodina immediately came up with a counter-attack, Trujić tried, Šaranov saved.

In the 51st minute there was a questionable situation, when Brašanac fell on the ground at Vojvodina’s penalty area line. Many complained for penalty, but the referee waved "go ahead".

I found no slow motion replay or analyzing about it. But even if it had been a penalty, it wouldn’t have changed the final result.

We could force the ball into the box in the 63rd minute. (aka we scored) Bojinov got the ball from Vulićević, it was the most unmissable chance of all unmissable chances - though Bojinov had missed out countless chances that were thought to be unmissable. Nevertheless this time he was lucky, because he could head the ball into the box. 1:2
Yet at the upcoming attempt he got stuck in offside position, probably he didn’t want to fall out of shape.
In the 65th minute Radović landed on the ground inside Vojvodina’s penalty area. The referee again waved "go ahead", and he was right. The slow motion replay clearly showed that it was NOT a penalty.
Our attacks were still blocked by Vojvodina defenders, and as a punch line they scored again in the 75th minute. Trifunović was hanging around all alone, he immediately got a cross right there. No flag up, Trifunović ran up leaving behind our entire defense line. Then he dribbled Šaranov, shot and scored. 1:3

At this point I turned a bit lower the volume of the stream and turned on the TV, where the Olympic Games were broadcasted live. There was a table tennis game running, but even that was more exciting than this crap.

For the rest of the game we were fumbling. We didn’t have many attempts, and even those we had were blocked. In the 80th minute I could see disappointed fans slowly starting to leave the stadium... It was like a salvation when the referee whistled off the game.

XXXI. Summer Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro - Day 1, 6th August, 2016

Partizan’s athletes had a struggling start at the Olympics. The first event of the first day was shooting, female 10 m air rifle,  where Andrea Arsović was expected to win a medal. Instead she finished at the 26th place, she couldn’t even get close to reach the final.

Later Arsović talked very bitterly to Mondo. She said she had stage fright and it didn’t calm down, so she couldn’t find her usual pace. On Thursday comes her other discipline, 50 m rifle in 3 positions, she wants to focus on that now.

clashed with Hungarians right in the first round.
It was not easy at all. The Hungarian team had a blitzkrieg, winning the first quarter to 3:5. At the half-time they were ahead to 6:10. Serbian goalkeeper Branislav Mitrović was mostly just watching the action in a quiet and sad manner. He was substituted by Gojko Pijetlović for the second half, that was the point when the Serbian team sped up. The standing was 9:12 for the third quarter. Ćuk, Mandić, Filipović and the others kept on scoring, Pijetlović saved as if his life would have depended on it. 7 seconds before the end the standing was 12:13. After hitting the crossbar the ball got back to the Serbian team. Filipović wasted no time, he grabbed it, shot and scored a huge goal, equalizing 4 seconds before the end buzz, finishing the game with 13:13.

Then came rowing, where Heat 3 of the men’s pair was surely one of the weirdest heats of the entire Games. The event was placed to Copacabana, and when it was the turn of the Beđik-Vasić duo, there was a very heavy wind in the bay and the ocean was waving.
The heat started by default with a fail, though it was impossible to see from the slow motion replay which boat wanted to start the race too early. As an extra, the Serbian boat was leaning very heavily to left, almost crossing the line to the other track, where the Italian duo were waiting for the start. If I could see well, something was wrong with the rudder, nevertheless finally everything was put in order. The race started and until 1500 metres Beđik and Vasić massively kept the 3rd place. (The Hungarian boat on the 4th place was behind them with at least half kilometre.) Though at 1000 metres something was wrong, the Serbian boat was leaning very much on the rope between the tracks. Then at 1500 metres all we could see was the Serbian boat being turned over, while Beđik and Vasić were swimming around it, being rather desperate.
The other duo, Andrija Šljukić and Marko Marjanović finished 4th at Heat 1 of the double sculls. Both Beđik-Vasić and Šljukić-Marjanović will compete in the repenchange on Sunday as a chance to get to the qualifyings.

At the tennis fields Ana Ivanović was quickly eliminated by Carla Suarez Navarro. The Spaniard won to 1:2 against her (6:2, 1:6, 2:6), so the Olympic Games have finished for Ivanović.
In men’s double Nenad Zimonjić (paired with Novak Đoković) won against the Croatian duo Čilić-Draganja to 0:2 (2:6, 2:6), they qualified to the next round.

At the heats of the men’s 400 m freestyle swimming Velimir Stjepanović finished at the 7th place in his heat, which was very far from being able to get to the qualifyings. It’s not such a big tragedy, as Stjepanović’s main discipline is 200 m freestyle, he probably focuses more on that.

The last event of the day was the basketball game between Venezuela and Serbia, which took place at 3.30 am CET on Sunday. Meanwhile the French team with Joffrey Lauvergne was defeated by Australia to 87:66.
